Assistant Coach - Peter Rusenas

Coach Peter started his diving journey with Donnie Torres at Indian River Community College at the age of 6, dove with Gerry Petit and the DuPage Diving Academy in high school, then continued on to dive at the Division 1 level for Buck Smith at Eastern Michigan University. He graduated in 4 years with a business degree in accounting and successfully completed his 12 year diving career.

Peter started his coaching career in 2016 for Michigan’s top junior diving program, Legacy Dive Club. During his time there, he helped develop repeat USA Diving National champions as well as members of Team USA’s High Performance squad. Since then he has helped many athletes qualify for the USA Diving Regionals, Zones, and National competitions. This is his 6th year of coaching.

Peter’s coaching philosophy is: “What we do in the pool is much bigger than diving. We are here to build a strong work ethic, create positive relationships with ourselves and others, overcome fear, and have fun in the process. This will create better versions of ourselves through the sport of diving.”

Peter really enjoys the physics of diving. He believes anyone can be a successful diver if they work hard and follow proper technique. This allows each athlete to achieve their maximum potential.

The favorite thing about coaching, Peter says, is sharing all his knowledge of diving with athletes so they become more engaged and ultimately become the best students of the sport. Coach Peter loves dancing during practice and; most importantly, watching athletes improve.

Peter also works as a diving board technician for Devise Diving, installing and maintaining diving boards across the country. As a certified FINA Diving Judge, he has had the opportunity to sit on the judging panels at USA Junior Nationals, US Senior Open Championships and the FINA Grand Prix Canada Cup.

In his free time, Coach Peter loves to garden, babysit his niece, and talk about diving.
